Chris (athlete): When I first went to see Hugo I was a sophomore in high school who had finished the season high jumping 6’1″. I worked with Hugo four times in the winter to prep for the next season. Those four practices were the most beneficial practices I have ever had. My form grew and I became much more confident over the bar and with my approach. When fall came I jumped 6’8.25″ at my first meet and saw much success over the course of the season. Over seven inches of improvement from four practices is incredible and would have been impossible without him. I have had six sessions since then and have no intention of stopping. Every practice is a new experience in which I know my knowledge and skill in the event will increase. Not only is Coach Hugo an amazing coach he’s also a great person. He is incredibly patient, kind and always willing to help or answer questions either in person, over the phone, or through email. When my senior year ended he gave me a plethora of information about colleges that have good high jump programs with strong coaching staffs. This helped immensely and made my decision making process much easier. I have never regretted spending time working with Coach Hugo and I would recommend it to anyone with an interest in improving their jumping technique.
Lyle (Dad): Hello Hugo, I’m sending you this message of thanks for helping my son Chris, throughout the past several years. I remember back when Chris first arrived at your camp with terrible form and only able to reach a height of about 6’1″. I’m so impressed with how much he has improved under your expert instruction (6’8″). Chris would always come back from your camp with many positive things to say about how much had learned, your style of coaching and how he could feel that you truly cared about his success on and off the field. Chris had a great junior year in high school reaching 6’8″ three times that year and his confidence was high. Unfortunately, his senior year did not go so well, due to a historically bad spring that included shoveling snow off the track at the end of April/early May. Because of this the D1 team that had been recruiting him decided not to sign him. Chris was devastated when the track team dropped him especially when he had already started his first semester at the school. After learning of Chris’s situation you went out of your way to help him by being instrumental in finding Chris a new welcoming D1 school which has a better high jump coach. In helping Chris through his difficult time you have proven to our family that you are more than just a great coach but someone who truly cares about the success of each and every kid you work with. Hugo, you put the smile back on Chris’s face and the spring back in his step!
Thanks Hugo for being such a great coach, mentor, friend and advocate!!!
