Anne Pesek (Mom) and Ashlyn Pesek (athlete), 2022 TAPPS 2A Texas State HJ Champion

Anne Pesek (Ashlyn Pesek Mom):Ashlyn began working with Coach Hugo in the summer of 2020. Not knowing much about the technique used in high jump, she was a bit nervous. Coach Hugo quickly learned about her and what she wanted to accomplish as an athlete. He watched her jump just a couple of times and knew exactly what she needed to adjust in order to improve. During that one lesson, she was easily jumping 3 inches or more higher than when she started. Coach Hugo is extremely personable and communicates with his athletes in a way that helps each of them learn. He obviously knows the sport and he shows that knowledge and passion to the athletes he coaches. Ashlyn has attended both camps and private lessons with Coach Hugo and she takes home a wealth of knowledge and skills each time she works with him. We are extremely appreciative of his time and expertise in high jump. Ashlyn has become a better athlete and teammate because of his help and we are thankful!

Ashlyn Pesek (Athlete):I first visited Coach Hugo in the summer before my sophomore year. At the time, I did not really know much about high jump; it was kind of just something I did because I wanted to get a few extra points for the team. At my first visit, Coach Hugo tweaked my approach and my jump technique and I was able to jump 3-4 inches higher in just a few jumps. He is also very good about working with me and explaining the techniques in a way that I can understand and apply regularly in my school practices. Not only have I learned so much about the sport, I have also grown to love it. Earlier this season, I was having some problems with my approach. I decided to schedule a camp with Coach Hugo to get everything sorted out before regionals. After my visit, I was more comfortable with my jump and had more confidence in my skills. Later that week, I went on to win both regionals, and state, in TAPPS 2A. I greatly appreciate the knowledge that Coach Hugo has given me, and the care that he shows for his athletes!”
