Darla Cotter (Sarah’s mother):High jump is such a technical sport. I have watched loads of kids with a natural athleticism and springy hops, who could fling their bodies over a bar, but they were inconsistent and would never squeeze those last inches out of their bodies because they had no understanding of the mechanics of the sport. We were lucky enough to have a very good school coach, a state title holder himself, so Sarah had good fundamentals, even still we wanted another set of eyes and expertise to help her unlock her potential. We discovered Coach Hugo and Kangaroo Athletics and travelled across the state of Texas for camps over two years to get Coach Hugo’s input. He filmed and analyzed every part of Sarah’s jumps and gave her new thoughts about curve running and hip placement and mental preparation. Sarah Cotter won the 2022 2A State Championship clearing 5’6″ without a miss because she had excellent training and was prepared to perform under the pressure of state competition.
