New Albany High School in New Albany Ohio; 2025 OHIO STATE CHAMPION

Rex Holman (Reese’s Dad):
A big thank you to Hugo!
Our experience has helped redirect Reese’s developmental trajectory.
Reese began jumping in middle school and showed some promise by jumping 5’ in 8th grade. Aside from a couple summer camps, she received her training from her middle school and high school coaches. She continued to work at it and progressed slowly. I had seen Kangaroo track jumpers on Instagram and was really impressed with the skill of the training jumps. I reached out and we scheduled an online coaching session. I was skeptical of an hour session having any impact. Truth be told it took about 15 minutes for Hugo to get focused on the teaching aspect as it was important for him to build a rapport. Once we got around to the assessment of what she was doing and what she could change, I was super impressed. I was an NCAA champion in wrestling and have coached at the collegiate and high school levels. I understand the difference between bad, average, good and excellent coaching. This was excellent and coming from someone who has obviously lived, breathed and devoted their life to a skill. When you have an Olympic level passion for something and then dedicate yourself to coaching with that same passion, you end up with a guy like Hugo. He has a deep and pragmatic understanding about how it works. A couple months later, Reese had a breakout meet jumping 5’5” but something was amiss as she was complaining about ankle pain and then sprained it bad enough that she was sidelined for multiple weeks leading up to the state meet. She recovered enough to qualify and compete at state but it was on a tender ankle. My concern was that she was over-stressing her ankle and that her career was going to be cut short. I knew proper technique could alleviate the issue. We did our first site visit to Minnesota this summer(2024). Her ankle was still bothering her at the time. To summarize that weekend, Hugo addressed her mechanics that were causing the ankle problem while working on specific things unique to her form that needed to be addressed. After three days, we were confident that we were back on track to making steady improvements. We visited again this Fall down in Houston. Again, refinement through attention to detail. This past weekend, Reese had her first indoor track meet, hit a PR of 5’6” and no ankle pain. As consumers, it’s not every day that you feel like your time and money is well spent, but that’s the case with Hugo and his training situation. We will be back again in February as it is worth it. We’d like to visit monthly but our schedule doesn’t allow for it. Anyway, I’m a big believer in Hugo Munoz and Kangaroo Track Club. Onward and upward. Rex Holman.
