When I signed up for my first kangaroo track club high jump camp with coach Hugo Munoz. I expected him to help me execute the techniques I already knew. Instead, Coach Hugo introduced me to many new techniques and changed my perspective of high jumping. I learned about the detailed mechanics of high jumping and was introduced to concepts that I had never heard of before. Coach Hugo has so much knowledge and experience that he knows how to coach every athlete based on their own individual abilities. At my first camp, it was difficult to transition from the ideas I had been using, to the new ideas I had learned. Coach Hugo was nothing but encouraging and was always positive and helpful. He has created a fun and efficient environment at his jump camps. Thanks to Coach Hugo, I have become more consistent and mentally sound. Since I started going to kangaroo jump camps, I have PR’d by 3 inches; I went into my first camp with a PR of 5’ 3” and finished this last season with an PR of 5’ 6” and a state championship. Not only has my PR increased, but my jump has visibly improved. Coach Hugo taught me how to improve my posture and speed in my approach. It is easy to tell the difference between my newer and older jumps; if you watch my recent jumps, you can see the amount of energy that I have learned to transfer from my jump into my approach. These concepts have been so helpful, and are a testament to Coach Hugo’s knowledge. I appreciate the knowledge and experience that he brings to his athletes, but the thing that I appreciate most about him is that he fully believes in his athletes. Every time I am at his camps, he reassures me and tells me how much he believes in me. He sees the potential in his athletes and makes sure that they know this. I am so grateful for the opportunity to work with Coach Hugo!
