Roger Burnett (Dad) and Ty Burnett (athlete), 2024 and 2025 Oklahoma State High Jump Champion PB: 2.11m / 6’11”

Roger Burnett (Dad): Ty started high jumping mid-spring his freshman year, and had only been jumping a few months when we went to Houston to see Coach Munoz. Ty had showed some promise by setting a school record just weeks into his first season, so we wanted to make sure that he started out with the proper technique before any bad habits started to form. As an ex-professional athlete and instructor in a different sport, I have often seen private coaches “over-coach” and find things to “correct” just to justify what they charge. I have also seen instructors teaching cookie cutter techniques without taking the individual skill of the athlete into consideration. I very much appreciate Coach Hugo focusing on the 2-3 important things that Ty needed to work on, while working within his individual skill set. There was no pressure to set up a series of continued workouts, just concerned efforts to get immediate improvement right then. Ty ended up beating his PB by 3 inches after only a few hours at the Kangaroo Track Club high jump camp with Coach Hugo, whose knowledge, teaching style and results oriented approach makes him easy to highly recommend! Ty ended up winning the 2024 Oklahoma State High Jump Championship with a new PB of 6’10” We absolutely plan to keep working with him over the next few years!!

Ty Burnett (athlete): AFTER HIS 1ST Kangaroo Track Club HIGH JUMP CAMP LAST SUMMER 2023:Before I went to Coach Munoz, I ended my freshman track season with 6’5″ in high jump. I went to his camp over the summer with expectations that weren’t very high, especially since it was just a couple days. Not only was Coach Munoz an amazing coach, but an amazing person too. He helped explain everything I needed to do in a way I easily understood and fixed my running technique. He taught me how to mentally approach each jump, giving me the confidence to believe I could jump higher. I made the most improvement over those two days compared to my entire season. I wish I would’ve gone to his camp sooner now knowing how much he helped. Thanks to his coaching, I left his camp jumping over 6’8″ with ease. It’s a blessing I had the opportunity to be coached by Coach Hugo Munoz at Kangaroo Track Club!! 2024 UPDATE, AFTER WINNING THE OK STATE HJ CHAMPIONSHIP: Thanks to Coach Hugo, my PR improved by five inches in the past year since l’ve been training under him. My recent 6’10” jump was good enough to win state this year as a sophomore, after placing 4th last year. Thank you for believing in me and seeing the best in me. I’m more than grateful to have you as a coach and appreciate your coaching advice to get me where I am today. Time to set some more goals for 2025!!

2025 UPDATE: Ty jumper 6’11” during the season and won state again! He is now a 2X Oklahoma State high jump Champion!
